Health and Safety Audit

A Health and Safety Audit is a systematic process which assesses and evaluates an organisation’s compliance with current health and safety regulations, policies, and procedures.

A Health and Safety Audit is a systematic process which assesses and evaluates an organisation’s compliance with current health and safety regulations, policies, and procedures. It involves a comprehensive review of an organisation’s health and safety management system to identify areas of non-compliance, potential hazards, as well as opportunities for improvement.

A health and safety audit typically involves carrying out the following steps:

  1. Plan: define the scope and objectives of the audit, identify the audit team, and develop an audit plan.
  2. Collect data: collect data related to the organisation’s health and safety policies, procedures, and practices through reviewing documentation, conducting interviews, and inspecting workplace facilities.
  3. Evaluate: analyze the data collected to assess the organisation’s compliance with relevant health and safety regulations, policies and procedures and compare it against industry best practice.
  4. Document findings and recommendations: identify areas of non-compliance, potential hazards, and opportunities for strengthening the internal health and safety management system.
  5. Report: summarize the audit findings, recommendations, and any identified areas of non-compliance. Share this with management and other relevant stakeholders.
  6. Follow-up: address the findings and recommendations and implement corrective measures to improve health and safety performance. Follow-up audits may be conducted to assess the effectiveness of any corrective actions taken.
