Guidelines for Race and Equality in the Workplace

Build a Foundation: Ensure workplace policies and practices do not discriminate. Always treat people equally. Publicly state your commitment to an inclusive, diverse workplace.

Recruitment: Ensure job descriptions are inclusive, avoiding biased language. Train interviewers to identify unconscious bias and ensure interview panels reflect your workforce. Use clear criteria and objective assessments throughout the hiring and promotion processes.

Employee Support: Educate employees on unconscious bias and its impact. Encourage open communication and the sharing of experiences. Implement programs fostering career development for diverse employees.

Accountability and Measurement: Track personnel diversity data and demographics to highlight areas for improvement. Ensure clear and accessible communication procedures are in place for reporting discrimination.

Periodic Review: Carry out regular reviews of practices and policies to ensure continued effectiveness.

Organisations should continuously seek ways to create an equitable and inclusive workplace for all.
