Hazardous Substances Awareness Guidelines
Identify all hazardous substances in the workplace. This includes both the pure substances and the mixtures that contain them.
Assess the risks associated with each hazardous substance. This includes considering the potential for exposure, the health effects of the substance, and the severity of the effects.
Implement control measures to reduce exposure to hazardous substances. This may include using engineering controls, such as ventilation systems and enclosures, or using administrative controls, such as work practices and procedures.
Provide workers with personal protective equipment. This will help reduce exposure to hazardous substances. PPE may include respirators, gloves, goggles, and aprons.
Train workers on the safe handling and disposal of hazardous substances. This training should cover the following topics:
- The hazards of the substances
- The control measures in place to reduce exposure
- How to use PPE properly
- How to dispose of hazardous substances safely
Hazardous substance safety is important in all workplaces. By following the guidelines above, you can help to protect workers from exposure to hazardous substances.

The App is free, developed by Erin Beck (Project Coordinator) and Oliver De Maria (Project Coordinator) whilst working with the iProtectU IT Developers. Both Erin and Oliver wanted to increase health, safety and wellbeing awareness in the workplace and made it their mission to develop a free, easy-to-use product, available to all.
